Loris flies through the clouds
March 2013
Dear Meike, Dear Anne,
Ever since Loris got a book about airports, he dreamed of only one thing: to fly in a big plane. This dream came true last weekend. When the details were finalised and Loris received your package, he said, “I will finally be able to fly above the clouds!”
The adventure began on Saturday morning when two nice ladies welcomed us at the Swiss desk at Zurich airport. From then on, we went from one surprise after another:
- the special time in the Swiss VIP lounge
- the invitation to the cockpit and the splendid panoramic view over the Alps during the flight to Nice
- the exceptional transfer to the Carlton hotel in Cannes
- the gorgeous suite
- the lovely decor of the children’s room
What impressed Loris the most was the return flight to Zurich. We actually flew over a fantastic sea of clouds. The pilot, copilot and the entire team took very good care of Loris and of all of us. (…). After the landing at Zurich airport, the pilot invited Loris on a tour of the plane and showed him the exterior details of the aircraft.
Two limousines then waited to take us back to the airport. Loris told them which way to go…
Since that day, Loris has been wearing his pilot’s cap whenever he can!
We are writing to thank you most sincerely. What we lived through during these two days was far beyond what we could have imagined. We were completely at ease. Loris and Vivienne lived so many things and received so many, many gifts. It was wonderful to see how much they both enjoyed it all. And we, the parents, did too! Thank you, dear Anne, dear Meike, for your invaluable work!
And thank you too for the strength you give to parents by your commitment.
Sincerely,
Adriana and Rolf, with Loris and Vivienne
COPY OF THE LETTER WE RECEIVED FROM PASCAL, 17, WHO MET HIS FAVOURITE SNOWBOARDERS DURING THE BURTON EUROPEAN OPEN LAST FEBRUARY
Dear Anne,
It’s been a week since I got home from Laax and life is back to normal.
I wanted to thank you most sincerely, as well as all the Make-A-Wish team, for having organised this ultra-cool meeting with the snowboard pros in Laax. I loved freeriding in powder with “Hitch” Christian Haller and Marco, Iouri’s trainer, but especially being in the front row for the Halfpipe final on Friday and being among all these boarding pros. It was awesome!
The best time was after the finals, when I met Iouri Podladtchikov, my great hero, and when we did a run together (with a few rails and tricks). Marco filmed us and wants to make a clip with it. At the end, Iouri gave me the “cheque” he won during the Burton European Open. This trophy will have a place of honour in my room!
The two days that I spent in Laax with my father thanks to your organisation were simply amazing. You really granted my wish and I’ll always remember it with great joy. Thanks so much!
Dear Anne, thank you kindly for welcoming me so warmly and for having spoiled me so much. Thanks also for decorating the room with all those balloons and especially for the sympathetic and friendly company in the mountains. I really enjoyed it.
Once again, thank you so much for this incredible experience, all the best in the future to you and to Make-A-Wish.
Sincerely,
Pascal

Linus's Wish: Visiting the largest aircraft carrier in the world.
Dear Catrin,
As we are sure you know from other children, the experience of having cancer and going through the extremely unpleasant chemotherapy that is necessary to treat it has a significant effect on the mental well being of the affected children. Thus it has been all the more important over the last few months to ensure Linus regains his previous happy outlook on life and realizes that there is much to live for.(…)
We can say without a doubt that the importance of your contribution to this aim cannot be overstated. We haven't seen him smiling, laughing and generally enjoying life this much since before he became ill. It seems that this is also not just a one-day-wonder but will have a lasting effect. (…)
For your hard work in fulfilling Linus' wish, bringing a smile back to his face and, most importantly, helping him regain a happy, positive view of his future, you have our eternal gratitude.
Linus' parents.
